Guild History

Guild’s Mission is to empower women and children become self-reliant by providing better education along with skill/capacity development training and also provide them social, economic and psychological support for healthy living.

Well... it all started in the year 1972 the dark war clouds of the 1971 Indo-Pak war had abated, leaving behind a trail of anguish, loss and despair. One soldier dies-leaving behind at least 5 lives, in living death. The civil society in India was shaken by the uncertainty of the lives of women who had been widowed. Those with a sensitive foresight realized that this uncertainty extended to all women who are dependent traditionally, socially and economically on the patriarchal framework. Women had to come out of the confining walls of their homes if they had to carve out a future for themselves in the changing world. Women would have to come out of their cocooned existence if the process of nation building had to be undertaken. Women themselves would have to realize and build on their own strengths and capacities.
With this realization was born the War Widows Association & Guild of Service in North India. Dr. V. Mohini Giri’s committed initiative was beginning in 1972. Since then there has been no looking back.

 Krishna: Paryavarna Prabhu
Continuing the series of Krishna celebrations through Creative Expressions the Guild for Service organised Janamashtami celebration in collaboration with India International Center, on 24th August 2016, eve of Janamashtami at Multipurpose Hall of IIC, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.
Today our planet faces the greatest environmental threat. If unchecked then we are hurtling towards a global disaster. Can we imagine our beautiful planet without the magnificent oceans, of the peacock or the smiling lotus in the ponds. Nature can the meandering rivers, the green shade of trees, the rhythmic dance exist without Man but Man cannot exist without Nature.
Perhaps that is why Krishna through his life, his exploits, his actions, even through the creative expressions on Him emphasized the close relationship between Man and Nature.
The Key Note presentation was done by Acharya Shrivats Goswami of Radharaman Temple, Vrindavan.

Guild for Service:

The Guild For Service is a national voluntary developmental organization dedicated towards the empowerment of marginalized women and children. Through our various projects, women and children affected by conflict situations and other unfortunate circumstances are empowered economically, politically and socially by ensuring them their rights. We provide shelter to the one’s abused and shunned away from society, by giving them vocational training to build their capacities and make them self reliant so that they are rehabilitated completely.

At our shelter home in Vrindavan, Ma Dham, thousands of widows have been rehabilitated. The home offers holistic opportunities for development by providing food, clothing, shelter, vocational training, medical aid and counseling to the destitute widows.
The home presently shelters about 120 widows, the majority of them being elderly and suffering from ailments that sometimes require constant medical attention.
The target of rehabilitating the widows of Vrindavan is an enormous one. Our home, Ma Dham, is a small beginning. You can care and share in this effort of giving a life of dignity to the 16,000 widows in Vrindavan.
